We use a mixture of external route setters and our own staff, all of whom are suitably experienced. We try to build in as much variety as possible to give you the best climbing experience we can.
One of the reasons our indoor climbing wall in Leeds is so busy is the quality of our routes. They range from very easy to very very hard! But they are all interesting and thought-proving. Some routes in fact can take many attempts before cracking and that is all a part of the climbing challenge.
There is an inherent risk with bouldering as it is an adventure sport, but the facility meets all the necessary standards for safety. Anyone taking part has to acknowledge the BMC participation statement:
"The BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions."
The fact that there are thousands of people who climb every day in the United Kingdom suggests that this risk can be managed effectively, so therefore we think it is acceptable.
We do offer children's parties. Normally these take place from 12:00 on weekends, and you have to call the centre for availability and for booking information. We offer stand-alone climbing parties with a ratio of 8 children per instructor and have a party room for hire as well as being able to organise food if requested.
We offer corporate packages for staff leaving do's, Christmas parties, socials or we can create an event specific to suit your requirements. We regularly have corporate teams who visit us to enjoy an experience who is a little bit different and definitely exciting.
In addition to our corporate groups, we also have hen do's and stag do's visiting which can be exciting to watch especially if they arrive in fancy dress!
You cannot hire out the entire centre, but if you would like to use us to host an event, such as a charity fundraiser, or run a course we can discuss the options available.
There is no dress code, you simply wear clothes you are comfortable moving around and sweating in. You can hire climbing shoes for £3 and chalk for £1.50, however we recommend that if you are getting into climbing seriously, you should buy your own pair.
One to One coaching is available, please call to enquire. We can also create a bespoke course of sessions over a longer time period at a discounted rate. Our coaching courses are a great way to progress quickly and really focus on improving areas such as:
• Technique - foot placement, balance, hand holds
• Strength and stamina improvements
• Setting climbing targets and working out a plan
• Dealing with problem climbing habits
• Preparing for a competition or outdoor trip
To become a registered climber, you need to be over 18. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult who signs them in and supervises them; unless they have a high level of experience and can attend an under 18 assessment (for 14-17 year olds). As the adult takes responsibility for the child there is no minimum age. Our children's sessions start from 5 years old. There is no maximum age.
You can find a full list of our prices here - The Climbing Lab Price List.
We offer a comprehensive range of prices from individual sessions to unlimited one-year passes.
We are associate members of the British Mountaineering Council.
We have a large car park and the industrial estate has on street parking.
Personal lockers are available. We operate a key swap, so you leave a key with us in exchange for a locker key, and then swap back at the end of you session.
We do not allow transfers of climbs or monthly memberships between members. If you injure yourself on the premises and have to stop climbing for a period of time, we will freeze your membership with the production of a doctor's note.
Making a booking is very easy. They can be taken through our own booking system, or over the phone - 01132632742.
Entry prices are charged as day entries, so your session can last as long as you want within a single day. You can even go off-site to get some food and then come back under the same entry.
We use the Hueco grading system or "V" system. You can find out more at our dedicated web page describing how the colour and grading system works.
"What do I have to do to be able to use the top-out section"
To use the top out area, you have to have experience of topping out, either outdoors or at another indoor centre and understand and accept the risks. If you have never done it before, then you need to attend one of our free inductions. They are 15 minutes long and
